Elections 1 May 2008

On Thursday 1 May, elections took place for the Mayor of London and Greater London Assembly. On the same day, local elections also took place in all local councils in Wales, and some councils in England.

On 24 March, we launched our awareness campaigns covering the local elections and a joint campaign with London Elects for the Greater London Authority election. You can find our adverts on our campaigns page.

You can find details on how to register to vote in future elections by going to our aboutmyvote website. If you are looking for materials and guidance for those working to raise awareness in how our democracy works visit the DoPolitics Centre.

We will be publishing reports on the administration of these elections in July.

Tell us what you think on our draft performance standards for Electoral Registration Officers

We have produced a paper outlining the draft performance standards for Electoral Registration Officers and we seek your views on both the overall set of performance standards, and the definition and format of individual standards.

Visit our consultation page to access the paper and for information on how to submit your comments.

Have your say on party descriptions used on ballot papers

During the May 2007 elections, the use of certain descriptions by political parties on ballot papers attracted some confusion among stakeholders.

As a result, we are seeking to explore whether the registration of party descriptions can be improved and welcome your views. Visit our consultation page for information on how to submit your views.
